Tulsa MET offers a unique approach to high school

No high school experience is the same, and at Tulsa MET it’s not just about keeping students engaged, it’s about graduation and preparing them for life after high school.

No high school experience is the same, and at Tulsa MET it’s not just about keeping students engaged, it’s about graduation and preparing them for life after high school.

“I really like that our school has programs that most schools don’t. like, for instance this, getting to go out, and real life examples, and stuff that will help us after school,” said student Mackenzie Cowan.

Tulsa MET prides itself on the student experience. One-on-one, individualized learning plans for each for each student helps keeps them engaged while igniting their passions.

“It’s an outstanding place for students, it’s an outstanding place for teachers,” said principal Michelle Butler.

A place, where everyone is working together for these students.

“I’m just allowing each student to be themselves, allowing an individual plan for their learning, and their success and their growth, and basing it on what each student needs,” said teacher Heather Ellis.

Tulsa MET champions communication.

“These teachers are going to call you if your student is absent, they are going to call you if your student is struggling, they’re going to call you when your student does a great thing,” said Butler.

A rather unique experience at Tulsa MET is that students there are required to do internships. From bike shops, to law offices, to veterinary clinics, if a student has an interest, Tulsa MET can find an internship.

“All I can say is every time we explain the internship program to people, the response 100-percent of the time is, where were you when I was in school,” said Butler.

Butler says the program lets students test out potential careers, making sure it’s a path worth investing in for each student.

“Over their course of time here at Tulsa MET, they might try six different work places,” said Butler.

“Tulsa MET is just a great environment to push you into the real world,” said student Wesley Miller.

An environment that is focused on seeing every student cross the graduation stage.

“Our goal is to see them all graduate,” said Butler.
