Update on COVID-19 safety practices as of Jan. 19

Starting on Wednesday, Jan. 19, we will temporarily reinstate our district-wide masking expectation for all students and adults in our schools and district-office sites. As we did last fall, students should bring their own masks to school if available, but we will have masks at school for those who need them.

Dear parents and families,

I am writing to share an important update on our district’s COVID-19 safety practices. We have continued to monitor local and district-level COVID-19 data over the long weekend. Based on the latest information available, rates of community spread in Tulsa County have reached record highs and the entirety of our city is now in the top two highest categories for COVID-19 infection rates.

Starting on Wednesday, Jan. 19, we will temporarily reinstate our district-wide masking expectation for all students and adults in our schools and district-office sites. As we did last fall, students should bring their own masks to school if available, but we will have masks at school for those who need them.

Masking is one of the most important and effective safety practices we have to protect our students and teachers. It is particularly important to wear your mask if you are asymptomatic and returning to school or work following the CDC’s recommended five-day isolation period after testing positive for COVID-19 and/or having COVID-like symptoms. We know that with our mask expectation and other layered safety measures in place and enough adults in the building to support them, we can more consistently keep our students learning together safely in person.

Please be safe: wear your mask, wash your hands, watch your distance, and - if you have not done so already - be sure to get your vaccination.

Best,

Deborah A. Gist, Superintendent

Estimados padres y familias,

Saludos,

Deborah A. Gist, Superintendente
