An update for Tulsa MET families

Dear Tulsa MET Middle and High School Families,

Recently, I reached out to you to share information about a proposal to consolidate some schools in our district. Like other communities across the country, Tulsa Public Schools is facing a budget shortfall due to declining enrollment and other factors. We must make hard decisions about how we best serve our students and families by honestly acknowledging that many of our school buildings – like MET – have significantly fewer students today than they were originally built to serve.

I know you may have questions, and I wanted to connect with you directly to let you know more about what’s next. My proposal to the board has not yet been approved, and is likely to be considered for a vote on October 19.

What I wanted to share with you is that the proposal to consolidate MET is not in any way representative of the students, teachers, families, or communities associated with the school. Should the board move ahead with these recommendations:

  • Students who are currently enrolled at MET will receive one-on-one support to understand their options ahead of the January enrollment window, including supporting those students who meet the criteria for magnet programs and may wish to apply.
  • For families who want to learn more about options for the 2027-28 school year, we will share information about pre-enrollment activities designed just for you.

Changes like these are challenging, and my team and I stand ready to support you and your student through the transition. Together, we will find the best fit for your family and continue the growth and success we know is possible for our young people.

Thank you for your continued support of our students and community,

Dr. Ebony Johnson Superintendent Tulsa Public Schools
